The International Association of Bookkeepers (IAB) qualifications are wholly relevant to individuals working at the first levels of financial accountancy, (payroll administrators or those who manage the finances of small businesses). Interest in the IAB is ever increasing and it continues to grow both in the UK and internationally, with members and students now in five figures and spread across approximately 60 countries.

What does the course cover?

IAB Level 2 Award in Computerised Payroll

IAB qualifications have all been designed to support the flexible learning that is increasingly important in today’s competitive business environment.

IAB Level 2 Award in Computerised Payroll gives candidates the necessary skills to carry out a range of basic day-to-day computerised payroll routines and activities using SAGE payroll software. The activities will include entry of payroll transactions, and routine payroll tasks including setting up company and employee information within computerised payroll software and processing weekly and/or monthly payrolls. Gain understanding of the importance of maintaining accuracy, security and data integrity in performing any payroll tasks using payroll software.

This course is suitable for beginners or candidates who already hold the IAB Level 1 Award/Certificate in payroll as well as those who are already employed in payroll or allied roles and who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills to perform routine and non-routine tasks.

IAB Level 3 Award in Computerised Payroll

The Level 3 Diploma in Payroll further develops your working knowledge relating to payroll procedures. The course assesses the learner’s competence and understanding in carrying out a range of day-to-day payroll routines and activities using a computerised payroll system.

The activities will include routine and complex payroll tasks, including the calculation of complex gross pay, processing of the payroll for employees, completion of payroll verification and reconciliation routinesusing commercially available payroll software on a monthly and annual basis, Preparation and use of period end HMRC forms and returns, preparation of internal reports and maintaining accuracy, security and data integrity in performing payroll tasks.

This course is suitable for those who already have some payroll experience and who wish to acquire further skills and knowledge required of Payroll Clerks and Payroll Administrators. Candidates who already hold the IAB Level 1 Award/Certificate and Level 2 Certificate in Payroll or the IAB Level 2 Certificate in Computerised Payroll.  Those who are already employed in payroll or allied roles and who wish to enhance their firm foundation and the knowledge and skills to perform some advanced routine and non-routine tasks.

How is the course assessed?

Level 2 Award in Computerised Payroll is assessed by a combination of:

  • Knowledge test – computer payroll theory
  • examination – computerised payroll skills

Level 3 Award in Computerised Payroll is assessed by:

  • examination – computerised payroll administration

The examination is graded as Pass or Fail and the minimum levels of achievement for the unit, is set at 70%.
